Honda Riders Impress at 2008 Australian Junior Motocross Championships

9 October 2008 - The Honda Australian Junior Motocross Championships saw six Honda riders proudly take the podium in key events after a week of racing in Wanneroo, WA.

Battling a challenging and sandy track, Honda racers Wade Hunter, Geran Stapleton and Ben Hussey dominated the 14 – 16 year old 85-150cc class, winning first, second and third place respectively.

Honda’s promising youngster Jacob Wright took home the title for the 12-14 year old 85cc – 150cc class, while fellow red rider Kurt Waterman came third.

Jacob, who also won the Sunshine State series this year for the third year running, recently switched from the Honda CRF150 standard to the CRF150 big wheel and is clearly settling into the new bike.

Jacob also raced in the 13 – U15 year old 250cc class, however the stalwart junior copped a dislocated shoulder courtesy of a run in with another rider in the second heat.

Although the Queensland local ultimately withdrew to concentrate on his 85cc-150cc class, he still placed a respectable 10th in the larger class, and despite coming off his bike earlier in the week, toughed it out to ultimately claim the Championship.

“Luckily the bike was still running after I came off. I rode hard and still won by 15 seconds,” said Jacob. “I was a bit nervous because the track was the same as quick sand; it just wanted to suck you in!”

Other Honda mounted riders worthy of mention include Dylan Peterson who earned bronze in the 125cc 15 years class, and Nicklas Scott who placed equal 6th in the 9-U12 year old 85cc-150cc class despite getting bogged in his second race. Wade Carter, who has been recruited to ride for the HRA Honda Junior Team in 2009, also won the 65cc 9-11 years title.

Honda congratulates all of their supported riders who competed in the 2008 Honda Australian Junior Motocross Championships.
