Honda Super Cub’s Journey Around Australia On A VFR1200

26 March 2010 - Honda’s Super Cub Bear has been on an amazing riding adventure around Australia on a Honda VFR1200 these past few weeks, safely claiming the title of the world’s first stuffed bear to travel 12,000 kms on a motorcycle on behalf of a manufacturer.

Super Cub kicked off his journey at last month’s Phillip Island round of World Superbikes where he hung out on the grid with Australia’s own Josh Brookes and Johnny Rea of the HANNspree Ten Kate Honda Team.

Cub has been reporting back to Head Office regularly, sending plenty of photos of what can only be described as one small stuffed bear’s intrepid journey of self discovery, sore bums and extreme temperatures.

Although somewhat shy when being interviewed, according to the Bear himself, the journey would not have been possible without the help of benefactor Honda Australia as well as’s Editor Trevor Hedge.

“Trev has really helped me out with riding tips, good places to stop and how to wear my belt so that I would be strapped on to the bike safely.”

“Where do I start? I have travelled to places I never even knew existed like the Hunter Valley, Cann River, Magnetic Island, Townsville, Wollomombi Falls, Katherine, Argyle and Cairns.”

“I’ve always been a motorcycling fanatic so when word broke on the arrival of Honda’s new VFR1200F, I thought it would be a perfect excuse to take the new sport-touring machine for a trip right around Australia.”

“After World Superbikes, I needed to be at the national press launch for the VFR1200F straight away, so that involved a 1150 km wet ride along the infamous Putty Road.”

“That was a little crazy, but not so much as when I took a wrong turn (thanks to my GPS) and found myself on a never ending dirt road heading through Monkerai Nature Reserve. Then I copped a nail in the rear tyre! A quick call to my mate Glen at Taree Motorcycles got me on my way again. Thanks Glen.”

“This has been a great way to meet some of my mates at Honda dealerships face to face too. I dropped in for a service at Rising Sun in Townsville, saw the guys at R& M Motorcycles in Katherine, Precision Motorcycles in Darwin and The Honda Shop in WA.”

“I’ve now made my way up through Queensland, the Northern Territory and on to Western Australia, and wait a minute.... just had a call for a photo shoot in Perth.”

“Ah, a Bear’s work is never done. I’ll see you at the end of the final leg, 5000 kms back to Melbourne!”

Super Cub is heading into the south-west before hitting Esperance followed by the big trip across the bottom paddock (Nullarbor), through Adelaide and into Melbourne.

All of the photos from Super Cub’s trip can be seen on the Honda Australia Facebook page.

Super Cub’s ‘cousins’ can be purchased from authorised Honda Dealers nationally.
