Honda Girls on the Gas hits the half way point

Four years since it was introduced, the Honda ‘Girls on the Gas’ has seen some of Australia’s most talented young female motocross riders. With a six month break since last year’s series was wrapped up for the second consecutive year by Jess Moore, the 2010 series was ready to kick off in Sunny Queensland.

Although it is called the ‘Sunny State’ when riders arrived at Ben Schodel’s Private Track in South East Queensland they were greeted with threatening skies, cold temperatures and strong winds. This year all eyes were set on 14 year old Gladstone rider, Krystal Sowten. Krystal was the only rider on a 250cc machine and having a clear size advantage over her young rivals. This made no difference with Krystal showing her true talent by taking a clean sweep in all four categories on her Honda CRF250R.
"I had a ball and learnt so much with the coaching. It was a big bonus to win overall," said Krystal after the event.

After a quick flight and change of clothes it was down to Victoria for the second round at Outtrim. Riders were greeted with prefect track conditions and Victoria’s notorious icy winter days. After riders had warmed up and were ready for competition they were blown away by 14 year old Sarah Stubbs from Cranbourne. It was almost a playback of the Queensland round with Sarah who was also mounted on a Honda CRF250R winning all four categories.
"I was lucky enough to win the Victorian round last year but hope to do better in the final showdown this year." Said Sarah.

With another quick flight it was over to Western Australia to hopefully ‘heat’ up the competition at the third round. But it was almost the exact opposite of heating up with cold, wet and muddy track conditions greeting the WA riders. For the third year in a-row it was none other than two times ‘Honda Girls on the Gas’ winner Jess Moore from Kalgoorlie who took the win. 16 year old Jess was no stranger to the categories and won all four sectors while mounted on her BCP backed Honda CRF250R. Jess is looking for a hat-trick at this year’s Honda Girls on the Gas final show down.
"I've enjoyed riding for Lee Hogan's Honda backed Girls on the Gas for the last two years and hope to get the opportunity to do the same for 2011," stated Jess.

The competition next heads to South Australia at the Murray Bridge circuit for Round 4 on the 7th & 8th of August before heading north to Darwin's Top End circuit on the 14th & 15th of August.
