Ahola Crowned World Enduro Champ for Second Year Running

16 October 2008 - Mika Ahola has become the World Enduro Champion for the second year running on board his Honda CRF250X.

Mika scored podium places at each round of the 2008 MAXXIS FIM Enduro World Championships in the E1 class, and wrapped up his title on the first day of proceedings at the French round in Mende last weekend.

On winning his title a day earlier than expected after a close stoush with Ivan Cervantes of Spain, the 33 year old finish rider said, “I’m surprised to become world champion today. I thought it would come tomorrow because the race is really difficult here.”

“I think the fact to be on the podium each race was the key this season. That’s what I learned last year.”

“We don’t have to push to win each day, and sometimes we must satisfy with second and third place. It also seems that I’m not making the mistakes I did in the past. The older I am, the faster I am.“

Ahola also won the E2 Championship racing for the Honda HM-Zanardo Team in 2007.

On local shores, the 2008 CRF250X was piloted to victory in this year’s Australian Off Road Championships and Australian 4-Day Enduro by relative newcomer Peter Boyle.

For anyone wanting to get their hands on this championship winning machine, Honda Australia currently have a “Go Bush” promotion in place. Anyone who purchases a 250X between now and 30 November 2008 will receive a free Limited Edition “Escape” Pack valued at $899. The Pack includes a quality Coleman 58 litre cooler on wheels, Fold “n” Go Stove and torch, plus a three man tent, aluminium ramp, hydration luggage back pack, five piece t-bar set and tyre levers.
