Murphy Dominates WA Grom’s On The Gas

September 14, 2009 - The deep sand of Coastal Park in Western Australia played host on the weekend to the final round of the Honda Grom’s on the Gas Competition for 2009.
The state of Western Australia didn’t let us down with entry numbers once again exceeding all other states other than Victoria, proving that junior motocross is alive and well in WA.
With perfect weather conditions it was Wanneroo junior rider Joseph Murphy who decimated the field after stringing together four solid categories while not finishing out of the top two.
The lap time sector was Murphy’s strong point with a solid victory, while still scoring second place in the public speaking, ‘on bike’ technique and fitness sectors.
“It’s great to have won here today,” said Murphy. “I don’t mind public speaking and really enjoy the fitness aspect of the sport so this format really suits me.”
When asked about travelling to Victoria later in the year for the ‘Final Showdown’ Murphy has this to say.
“We are so far away from the east coast that it’s really hard to know that much about your competition, so all I can do is prepare over here and try my best.”
Second place overall went to Kenlen Youl via a countback after finishing equal on points with eventual third place getter Zac Hailand
Both riders performed well but it was Youl’s terrific win in the ‘on bike’ technique sector that sealed the second placing overall.
With all of the state legs now completed our seven state winners will prepare for the big ‘Final Showdown’ at Outrim, Victoria where they will all go head to head to see who will be crowned the Honda Groms on the Gas champion for 2009.
