Top Testing Times At Tasmania Bode Well For Teknic Honda This Weekend

27 August 2008 - Banking on the lap record breaking performance that Teknic Honda rider Jason O’Halloran put in at a recent  Symmons Plains, Tasmania testing session, the factory team are expecting to be highly competitive at this weekend’s penultimate Australian Superbike Championship round.

O’Halloran’s time of 53.10 seconds was nearly half a second below the Superbike lap record of 53.573 seconds held by his teammate and current championship leader Glenn Allerton.

Whilst O’Halloran and his technicians worked hard over the two day event to gain the advantage by four tenths of a second from Dan Stauffer, Allerton also fared well scoring equal third-fastest time with Kevin Curtain.

Both riders come to the round refreshed, at full fitness and eager to finish the season strongly.

“It was a long layoff since the last round,” said Team Manager Paul Free. “Our first day at Launceston was a bit slow and very cold, but we spent a lot of time making changes to the CBR1000RR’s and feel like we have moved forward in leaps and bounds since the last round.”

Allerton, who leads the series by six points from Jamie Stauffer as they head to the sixth of seven meetings, is optimistic about racing once again on the track that saw him claim a lap record and the overall victory at 2007’s Superbike round as a privateer.

“We tried some new settings with my bike and did quite a few long runs on race tyres and our times were very consistent,” Allerton said.

“I’m ready to go and love riding at this place. The track has got a good surface, the layout is challenging and makes for exciting racing, and we always get great crowd support from the locals.”

The Team’s Supersport rider Wayne Maxwell is also well on the pace, with his testing time at Tasmania on the CBR600RR coming in under the current lap record.

Maxwell is becoming more confident and comfortable as the season progress, and is looking promising for a win this weekend according to Free.

“Wayne finished second quickest in testing and he is moving forward significantly each time we get out there.”

“His ability to produce quick lap times within 6 to 10 laps of any circuit is incredible. Every time we go to a different circuit, Wayne touches the lap record within 15 minutes of hitting the track.”

“His progress is really is a credit to himself, Team Teknic Honda and the Pirelli tyres. He is working extremely hard both on and off the track, and right now he is the fittest I have ever seen him, both mentally and physically.”
