Maxwell third overall at ASBK Round Three

After dominating qualifying and taking out the Superpole honours at round 3 of the Australian Superbike Championships, Demolition Plus GAS Honda's Wayne Maxwell piloted his CBR1000RR into third place in both races of the Queensland meeting.

Although the 27-year-old Victorian put in a blistering lap of 1:10.244 set late Saturday, just ahead of eventual round winner Cougar Bourbon Honda's Bryan Staring, Maxwell had to settle for third overall by weekend's end. "We had the pace early on and full credit to my team who helped me get there," said Maxwell.

"Unfortunately I did struggle a bit to gain any ground during racing and got a bit of arm pump in the first one. The weekend wasn't meant to be mine but congratulations to Bryan who put in a great performance." "We've got a lot of work in front of us now before we come back here to Ipswich for the next round.

Tonight however I'm off to Japan for the Suzuka event." Team Manager, Geoff Winzer said they will be working toward improving consistency prior to the next Australian meeting. "Saturday everything was on target and we couldn't have asked anymore from Wayne," he said.

"The bike never missed a beat, but it is motorsport and anything can happen. Hondas are looking good and we're leading the Manufacturer's Championship so it's going to be a great series.

There isn't much between the top three." Maxwell now sits on 110.5 points in second position to Staring's 115 points and Josh Waters on 104.5. For more information, go to
