Honda Ignition Security System (HISS)

The HYPER VTEC has been developed further to dramatically improve the potential of the water-cooled 4 cylinder engine at its heart.

The “Revo” system has added the new function of switching the running number of valves according to the throttle opening without changing the timing of the switching between 2 valve and 4 valve according to engine rpm. This enables 2 valve running which excels in combustion efficiency when the throttle opening is low such as cruising between 6,300rpm and 6,750rpm, which used to be in the range of 4 valve running, and thus further improving fuel economy.

PGM-FI Throttle Body

A new electronic controlled fuel injection system PGM-FI (Programmed Fuel Injection System) has been adopted as a fuel supply system.

This improves fuel economy by controlling the optimal amount of fuel consumption and its timing, realising not only excellent start-up performance and being environmentally friendly, but also achieving a smoother ride all-round.

The throttle body is fitted out with an IACV (Intake Air Control Valve) to aim at a more stabile idle-speed and improving start-up. In addition, further improvement was made to details such as optimizing ignition timing, and improving output & torque during low/medium speeds. Lighter weight of the engine itself was achieved, which contributes to an improvement in riding control.

Exhaust

As for the exhaust system, riding noise is reduced by expanding the capacity of silencer while keeping the Honda pure exhaust sound as before.

Also, considering the environment and economy, an exhaust gas afterburning system and exhaust emission control system (catalyser) has been adopted offering a brisk feeling of all-round acceleration, quick response and flexible handling.

The new power unit which integrates all these qualities in higher dimension, exhibits performance deserved to be called “all-round high performance”.

Frame

A tough double cradle has been adopted. Ride-ability is further improved by changes such as the optimisation of engine placement and readjustment of rigidity balance of the frame and engine hanger.

Suspension

For the suspension, telescopic type is adopted for the front. It achieves a higher capacity for road-hugging and excellent rigidity and balance, which enables light and stable handling. The rear suspension has twin shocks running from a high rigidity swing arm. Also both front and rear suspension is equipped with a preload adjuster.

The front is set with a non-step adjustment, which combined with the rear 5 step adjustment enables sensitive adjustment tailored to individual weight and build. The front forks are equipped with a chip guard to prevent damage to the inner tube.

Brakes

Combined ABS is newly set up with a combination brake system, in which the front and rear wheel brakes work in tandem just by operating the foot brake pedal, paired with ABS (anti-lock brake system) to avoid locking up the front and rear wheels by over-braking.

A wheel-speed sensor is equipped in the front and rear wheels detects any locking tendency by over-braking or sudden change of road surface conditions, and the computer unit controls the braking level appropriately to avoid locking up of the wheels.

Combined with a front/rear wheel interlock brake, highly-efficient, safe braking is achieved by easy operation in slippery road conditions. This is Honda’s own brake system, which also has the effect of reducing excessive tension on the rider as when riding in wet conditions.

The front brake callipers are a pin slide 3 piston calliper with twin 296mm diameter light floating discs.
Also to help realise excellent brake touch and response, the master cylinder is a direct push type. On the other hand, the rear has a one side push type single piston calliper attached on the axle to achieve low weight.

Other features

  • The two-lens meter offers a brilliant blue display and stunning impression, specially designed to suit the CB400 machine.
  • The head light offers a 60/55W multi reflector halogen version, dependable for when riding at night.
  • The multi reflector front and rear indicators give excellent visibility for all conditions.
  • For the seat high density urethane foam is adopted.
  • The radiator grill has a spoiler attached to make use of aerodynamic effect and to therefore enhance ride-ability.
  • The sharp rear cowl has an LED tail lamp with 18 LEDs divided into 2 groups arranged in circles.

Honda Ignition Security System (HISS)

As the security system to protect your bike, HISS (Honda Ignition Security System) is equipped as standard. Built-in chip in the original key catches the signal from the engine control unit. The engine control unit recognises the ID set in the key. Unless the signals from both match, the engine does not start. This is Honda’s own anti-theft system. In addition, it is equipped with enhanced handle-lock function and enhanced key cylinder.
