Deutscher’s Chipper Shredder Embraced By Gardeners
17 August, 2009 - Deutscher Mowers’ Chipper Shredder is being embraced by the gardening community, achieving significant momentum for the 105 year old Ballarat manufacturer.
"There’s been a real growth in the Honda powered units, as people are really starting to recognise their value," said Peter Deutscher, owner of Deutscher Mowers.
"They’re reliable and durable, and save people from burning all their green waste or taking it to the tip. They can also use the garden mulch to achieve water savings of up to 70%," said Mr Deutscher.
"I use my chipper as much as my mower these days, as I have a large garden which requires constant pruning. I just whack it all through the chipper and throw it back on the plants."
The Deutscher Chipper Shredder was created because Peter wanted to introduce a product with an environmental focus, and saw a lot of inferior chipper shredder products on the market. He chose to use Honda’s GX200 engine, which exceeds the strictest emission standards in the world.
"We set about identifying the problems with the competitors’ machines and spent ten months designing this product. It had to be efficient, easy to use and anti clogging."
"Usually by the time people come to us they’ve been disappointed by chipper shredders that seize up after anything more than a few stalks, and they do their research. The Honda engines are highly sought out because people are demanding quality."
Kinglake resident Bob Hern has been using his Deutscher Chipper Shredder to prepare for the upcoming bushfire season, clearing and taking limbs off the Messmate Stringybark trees on his property.
"We’ve got some pretty decent trees here with a lot of foliage, which can grow to 30 metres tall and 90cm in girth. I chop up the big stuff for the inside fireplace and put the rest through the chipper for my garden mulch, it’s really good."
"We were looking around after the fires and I wasn’t happy with the engineering on the products I saw, until I saw the Deutscher. They’re very well engineered chippers. We’ve had Deutscher mowers before and they’re tough as nails, unbreakable."
"I wanted to buy one because trees are an ongoing situation here, it was a convenience thing. We’re always pruning and leaving branches around the yard, and now I can just wheel the Chipper Shredder out of the shed and get rid of it all in half a day."
While his neighbours still burn off their waste, Bob couldn’t if he tried now.
"It’s been so long since I used the bonfire there’s a family of blue tongue lizards living in it now. I wouldn’t want to burn them!"
According to Peter Singleton, Honda’s Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Manager, the Chipper Shredder is a smart purchase for anyone with a big yard because it saves so much money.
"If you work out the rental costs as well as tip fees and the money you save on mulch for your garden, it makes sense to own one of these. The Deutscher chipper will last you lifetime. Your neighbours will get some use out of it as well!" said Mr Singleton.
"Deutscher and Honda both manufacture quality products that are designed to handle Australia’s tough conditions, which is why we’re such good partners."
Deutscher’s Honda powered Chipper Shredder retails for $1694.
